Colleagues,
I am aware that there have been questions regarding AF-12.
I want to acknowledge those questions directly, because I believe an organization like ours is built on trust, and trust is built on communication, and communication is something I remain deeply committed to as a value.
The action taken with respect to AF-12 was taken in accordance with Section 9(c) of our Organizational Charter, following a process that was thorough, fair, and complete. I was personally involved at every stage, which those of you who know how I feel about shutting things down will understand was not a step taken lightly, or gladly, or — I want to be honest here — easily.
I am not able to share further details at this time. I recognize that this is frustrating. I would ask you to trust that if you knew what I knew, you would also not be able to share further details at this time.
To the several groups who have asked whether this affects their own standing: no. Absolutely not. The circumstances were unique. I have no intention of ever invoking Section 9(c) again, and I have asked legal to look into whether it can be removed from the Charter entirely, once the Charter revision is complete.
Our focus now is forward. There is so much exciting work happening across the consortium right now, and that is where I would gently encourage all of us to direct our energy.
Thank you for your understanding, and please stop emailing legal@.
Toward the frontier,
Elliot
